CopperTail Brewery Review

Copper Tail.jpg

Residents from our neighborhood, V.M. Ybor, met up for a social at Coppertail Brewing Co. on 11/23/19. This was my second visit to the brewery in about 3 years. There was plenty of parking in the adjoining lots, and the brewery was easy to find. We were expecting 10 - 15 people, and the servers were very accommodating by helping us push several tables together.

Coppertail serves a pretty wide variety of beer styles, and per their beer menu that evening, appears to specialize is sours and IPAs. I ordered a flight so that I could try several, and really enjoyed the Guava Passion, a sour Berliner Weisse that definitely made me pucker up the first couple of sips, and had a nice, almost "fresh baked goods taste" finish. My husband, Tarry, loves porters, and you can't go wrong with Coppertail's Night Swim; definitely not sweet, and with a hint of roasted chocolate.

Tarry ordered the Cheeseburger, while I ordered the Kale Caesar and the Fig & Prosciutto Flat Bread to share. Tarry's burger came cooked perfectly - he loves a rare-ish burger, and they nailed it. Other than this, there was nothing spectacular about the burger. My philosophy is that if there is only one style of an item on the menu, it is probably not their specialty and you'd be better off ordering something else.

I loved the Kale Caesar, and would have preferred it to be tossed with the dressing prior to serving, like how the menu describes it. The individual pieces of kale - and there were a lot of them! - were rather large, so it made spreading the thick Caesar dressing, while cutting the kale with my knife and fork, a little difficult. Loved the naan croutons, and overall was very happy with the salad. This will be a must-have the next trip there!

I took the bartender's suggestion and ordered the Fig & Prosciutto flatbread over the Tikka Masala option. The intertwining of the salt from the prosciutto and the sweetness from the fig jam was delicious! I also love to accent my food with veggies wherever I can, so the arugula was a nice added bonus and helped to balance out the sweetness of the jam. Unfortunately, they forgot to add the goat cheese on top, so with the addition of the balsamic drizzle, was almost dessert-like. I will definitely give this another chance though!

Others at our table ordered the Tikka Masala flatbread, which they said was delicious, but definitely spicy hot, as was the Buffalo Cauliflower. The Steak sandwich looked like a "must try", as did the very juicy Greek sandwich with grilled chicken.

Of course someone had to order the Donut Holes, and since I can't help myself around deep fried dough, I ended up eating almost all of them myself :( They were delicious,, especially dipped in the vanilla dipping sauce. Will probably pass on these in the future as I would rather save my calories for the beer!

Overall, we had a very good meal, enjoyed the open, rustic atmosphere, and definitely would recommend this as a place to visit in Ybor. We will be back!
